Abundance: Fairly Common during late spring, summer, and fall; Rare during winter; recorded in all Regional counties (Map of UCR Distribution); data from the Regional bird-monitoring efforts indicate that the population in the Region is probably stable but possibly decreasing (see also Regional Bird-Monitoring Plan).

Status: Summer Resident; Rare Visitor during winter (8 records; see Out-of-Season [Winter] Records [below]); specimen (10 June 1938; Monticello, Wayne County, Kentucky; W. M. Perrygo; Wetmore 1940).

Regional High Count and SBC/SBB High Count: 62 (10 May 2008; Putnam County, Tennessee [SBC]; m. ob.); FBC/FBB High Count: 56 (20 September 2008; Putnam County, Tennessee [FBC]; m. ob.; and 25 September 2010; DeKalb County, Tennessee [FBB]; m. ob.).

Out-of-Season (Winter) Records:

28 December 1968 (2) within the Cookeville CBC circle, Putnam County, Tennessee (observer unknown), a CBC record.

30 December 1970 (1) within the Glasgow CBC circle (Note: not a standard-sized circle), Barren/Allen counties, Kentucky (observer unknown), a CBC record.

YardWatch Results 2003 and 2004: Registered on 25 (of 125) monthly check-lists during 2003 and on 44 (of 206) check-lists during 2004, leading to a YardWatch frequency classification of Fairly Common during each year; this YardWatch frequency classification is consistent with the overall Regional abundance classification.
