Results of the Glasgow Christmas Bird Counts in Barren County, Kentucky, for CBC Seasons from 2011–2012 to 2012–2013 and from 2017–2018 to 2020–2021

About 125 species of birds were recorded on 65 Glasgow CBCs from the season of its inception in the mid-1930s to its final count during the 2012–2013 season The most recently added species were Eurasian-Collared-Dove and Rufous Hummingbird, added during the 2011–2012 season, and Ross's Goose, added during the 2012–2013 season. The data from this CBC are invaluable in determining the timing of the demise of the Bewick's Wren in the area, the ongoing decline of the Loggerhead Shrike, the immigration of Canada Geese and House Finches, and the irruptions of boreal invaders such as Red-breasted Nuthatches, Pine Siskins, and Evening Grosbeaks, as well as in determining the relative abundance of many species of common birds. The persons who have participated in this count, and particularly the compilers, are owed much for the work they have undertaken to continue this CBC for such a large number of repetitions, currently the largest among Upper Cumberland Region CBCs.
Note: Because the data collected during the history of the Glasgow CBC come from a circle sometimes 30 miles in diameter instead of the standard 15-mile diameter circle, comparison of the Glasgow CBC data with data from other Regional and continental CBCs is not recommended.
Also Note: The Glasgow CBC was resumed during the 2017–2018 season, using a correctly plotted 15-mile circle; a new Barren River Lake CBC was initiated during the 2017–2018 season. Information about the latter CBC may be obtained via this link:
