Wilson's Phalarope (Phalaropus tricolor)

Abundance: Rare; 5 records in 3 counties, 2 in Kentucky and 1 in Tennessee, each record involving a single individual (Map of UCR Distribution); data from the Regional bird-monitoring efforts are too few to determine a trend in the population migrating through the Region (see also Regional Bird-Monitoring Plan).

Status: Transient during fall (5 records); photographs (see links below).

5 November 1991 (1) City Lake, Putnam County, Tennessee (Barbara H. Stedman; Stedman 1993).

3 August 2002 (1—juvenile) Fishing Creek, Pulaski County, Kentucky (Roseanna M. Denton; Busroe 2003a).

YardWatch Results 2003 and 2004: No registrations.

Habitat: Usually, mudflats around small bodies of water.

Remarks: The Putnam County, Tennessee, sighting is one of the latest on record for  that state (Robinson 1990).
