Abundance: Occasional; 2 records, 1 in 1 Kentucky county and 1 in 1 Tennessee county (Map of UCR Distribution); data from the Regional bird-monitoring efforts are too few to determine a trend in the population migrating through the Region (see also Regional Bird-Monitoring Plan).
Status: Visitor during fall (2 records); photograph (see above and link below).
Information on Records:
10–14 September 2011 (1— juvenile) Barren River Reservoir, Barren/Allen counties, Kentucky (David L. Roemer photo et al.). A short account of this sighting may be viewed via this link: First Regional Record of PAJA.
16–18 September 2017 (1— juvenile) Center Hill Lake, DeKalb County, Tennessee (Mark Taylor photographs [see above] et al.).
Habitat: Large bodies of water.
YardWatch Results 2003 and 2004: no data.
Foray Results: no data.
Remarks: The first record above, also the first to be obtained in Kentucky, occurred during the initial appearance of the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee in the Region; the second record took place shortly after the arrival of remnants of Hurrican Irma in the Region.
