Central Node for UCR Foray in Jackson County, Tennessee—29 May–1 June 2009
Detected in 17 of the 40 blocks into which Jackson County was divided for the 2009 UCR Foray, Barred Owls observed the dozen field workers who took part in this event with fair frequency! This image was obtained on Buffalo Hollow Rd., part of the Gainesboro 5 block; photo Nancy S. Layzer (31 May 2009). |
The 2009 UCR Foray in Jackson County was conducted 29 May–1 June, the first bird survey of its kind to take place in that county. Observers taking part in this first-ever foray in Jackson County are listed in Table 2 at the page for Raw Data (link below).
The general protocol for conducting a foray in the UCR, as well as the specific instructions for UCR Forays, may be consulted at pages accessible via these links:

A physiographic map (Figure 2) of Jackson County, showing the location of the USGS quadrangles that coincide with it, is accessible via the link below:
Jackson County encompasses land lying on the Highland Rim, mainly in the southeastern and extreme northern sectors of the county, and it contains land lying in the Central Basin, mainly along the Cumberland River and its major tributaries. However, a key component of the county is the escarpment that links these physiographic provinces both north and south of the Cumberland River. A rich avifauna of Neotropical migrant breeding species is harbored on the slopes of this escarpment, including many Cerulean Warblers.
