Results of Fall Bird Counts and a Fall BirdBlitz Conducted in the Upper Cumberland Region during 2011
Data for 127 species of birds were obtained during efforts—including one Fall Bird Count (FBC) and two Fall BirdBlitzes (FBB)—to monitor the birdlife of the Region this fall. This total is below the collective totals achieved on Regional FBCs and FBBs conducted during 2005 (135), 2006 (139), 2007 (133), and well below the collective totals for 2008 (141), 2009 (141), and 2010 (142). In the table below all 127 species are listed with data from the various counts following the species' names.
The FBC conducted in White County, TN, was the 8th consecutively there; the FBBs in Wayne County, KY and in Bledsoe County, TN, were the first ever in those counties. To see a map of the Region highlighting counties where the FBC and the FBBs were conducted, click on the following link:
Loggerhead Shrike was tallied on two of the Regional counts this season, a modestly good sign for this decreasing species.
