Results of the Fall BirdBlitz in McCreary County, Kentucky2 October 2010

Two Horned Larks were found during the McCreary County Fall BirdBlitz at a site where this species has been present for at least a decade, the McCreary County Airport; photo Carol D. Williams (25 September 2010 [image obtained during the DeKalb County, TN, Fall BirdBlitz]).

 

The first bird survey of any kind during the fall season in McCreary County, KY, was conducted 2 October 2010, when four observers in four field parties tallied over 2000 individuals of 97 species.  Two speciesNorthern Waterthrush and Wilson's Warbler—were recorded in McCreary County for the first time ever.  Some late-lingering summer residents and early-arriving winter residents were also recorded as part of this effort to monitor the bird populations in the county.

North (RMD)—North of Rts. 927 and 90.

East (BHS)—East of Rt. 27 between Rt. 90 on the north and the state line on the south.

South-Central (WAW)—South of Rt. 927 between Rt. 27 on the east and the Big South Fork of the Cumberland River on the west.

West (SJS)—West of the Big South Fork of the Cumberland River.
