Results of Bird Counts in Putnam and White Counties, Tennessee, and Pulaski County, Kentucky, Pooling Data Collected According to Great Backyard Bird Count Methodology—February 19, 2005
The data pooled below for 84 species of birds occurring in the Region during late winter 2004–2005 derive from results of Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) checklists conducted in three Upper Cumberland Region counties—Putnam and White counties, Tennessee, and Pulaski County, Kentucky. All data were collected February 19, 2005. Many thanks to all the observers who submitted data from these counties; thanks are due also to many observers from other counties who also submitted data, but not enough to reach the 10 checklists per county minimum needed for inclusion below.
Some degree of variability in the GBBC data exists with regard to the length of time taken to collect data at the various sites noted below. In future years I'd like to reduce this source of variability by using only data from checklists representing a time frame between 15 minutes and 2 hours in duration. I also plan to accept data only if they come to me as a forwarded copy of the checklist results sent to observers (on request) by the GBBC data-entry program. Finally, I will ask that observers list their names and data collection sites in the "Comments" section of the checklist report.
