Arrival and Departure Dates for Migrant Birds in the Upper Cumberland Region for Migration Seasons from Spring 2001 to Spring 2012

One of the factual offerings of this work is an indication of the period(s) of occurrence for each migratory species documented within the Region. The period(s) of occurrence are provided in three forms: an indication of the period within which a migratory species can reasonably be expected to be present in the Region; a set of specific dates representing the earliest and latest dates when a migratory species was detected during each of the years of the first decade of the Twenty-First Century; and a set of the earliest and latest dates of Regional occurrence ever obtained for migratory species.

Each of the individual accounts for migratory species in this work provides these three forms of occurrence data. The general dates of occurrence are the author's best estimate about when a given species is very likely to be present during its migratory journey through the Region; the set of specific dates was accumulated over the course of a decade of spring and fall migration seasons, mainly from 2002 to 2012; and the earlier and latest ever dates (i.e., the Extreme Dates) derive from an analysis of the entirety of the published and, where available to the author, the unpublished ornithological record for the Region.

Many of the Regional early and late date data were obtained from compilations of such data maintained for Pulaski County, Kentucky (courtesy Roseanna M. Denton), and for Putnam County, Tennessee (Stedman 2006–2015).  Access these compilations via these links:

It may prove useful to some researchers to have access to tables providing collective dates of arrival and departure for all migrant species in the Region for specific migration seasons; click on the appropriate season in the following table for such collective data.
